Amen to that, zack. I can't review ActionButton, myself, because I've only read enough of their work to determine that I prefer not to read more of it at this time. It's one of the two bad choices to which video game fans--heck, maybe young men on the Internet in general--seem to want to reduce the world: sarcastic bile, or brainless fanboyism. Either something is the best thing ever and may not be criticized whatsoever, or it's got to be insulted with maximum irony. Bah to that--I don't care whether the things I used to love are perfect or garbage. I care that I experienced them then as if they were perfect, and would experience them now, if I weren't already familiar with them, as if they were garbage. May I speak of these things without either deifying or condemning? Where is the lone voice to do that, to take the step into the new frontier of this smart, angry territory that Old Man Murray made safe years ago?

For a very punk/zine-like anti-mainstream sort of publication, they sure drink the Gears of War kool-aid. Other than that it seems like they just figure they will take something people like, call it overrated or trite and then praise whatever mediocre game they remember liking that commits the same infractions. When their About page says that they basically post just to "push buttons" it colors their opinions poorly.
